We are transforming our community by pursuing God, building community, and unleashing compassion — working alongside families and leaders across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Zambia to create villages where every child can thrive.

Powered by Faith

Christ's love is the foundation of everything we do. It drives our programs, our presence, and our perseverance in the places where children need us most.

About Second Chance Global

A Christ-centered organization transforming communities across East & Southern Africa since 2012.

Compassion in Action

Second Chance Global was founded in 2012 with a simple but audacious vision: to see every village in East Africa transformed through the love of Christ. What began as a small orphan care initiative in Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya has grown into a multi-country organization serving thousands of children and families.

Registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States and as an NGO in Kenya, we operate field programs across five nations — with our operations headquarters in Kitale, Kenya coordinating on-the-ground ministry.

We exist to change the lives of children and families through Christ-centered services, working together with communities to build thriving villages where every resident has the opportunity to grow, prosper, and contribute to positive change.

🇰🇪 Kenya — Operations Headquarters

Location: Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County  |  Active since: 2012  |  Programs: All four pillars

Kenya is where our story began and remains our largest field of operation. Based in Kitale, our operations headquarters coordinates all programs across Trans-Nzoia County and supports the expansion into neighboring countries. With all four pillar ministries active, Kenya serves as our model for village transformation — from orphan and foster care to community-wide economic empowerment.

🇺🇬 Uganda

Location: Eastern Uganda  |  Active since: 2019  |  Programs: All four pillars

All four of our pillar ministries are active in Uganda — orphan & foster care, anti-jigger outreach, girl child initiative, and community transformation. We partner with local churches and village leaders in eastern Uganda to identify vulnerable children, treat jigger infestation, empower girls through education, and build economic resilience in rural communities.

🇹🇿 Tanzania

Location: Northern Tanzania  |  Active since: 2019  |  Programs: All four pillars

In Tanzania, we run all four pillar programs — from orphan and foster care placement to our Girl Child Initiative providing reusable sanitary pads and education scholarships. Our anti-jigger outreach treats affected communities in underserved regions, while our community transformation program builds vocational centers, clean water wells, and church partnerships.

🇧🇮 Burundi

Location: Rural Burundi  |  Active since: 2022  |  Programs: All four pillars

Burundi hosts all four of our pillar ministries. Our teams provide foster care for orphaned children, run anti-jigger treatment campaigns, empower girls through the Girl Child Initiative, and lead community transformation programs including savings groups, agricultural training, and Good News evangelism in some of the world's most vulnerable communities.

🇿🇲 Zambia

Location: Southern Zambia  |  Active since: 2022  |  Programs: All four pillars

In Zambia, all four pillar programs are active. We place orphaned children with loving foster families, conduct anti-jigger medical outreach, run girl child empowerment and education programs, and lead community transformation initiatives including clean water wells, vocational training, and church-based development in rural southern Zambia.

Our Work

Four pillar ministries working together for lasting community transformation across five countries.

Orphan & Foster Care

Second Chance Global's orphanage and foster care program currently supports 40 children — 28 in our residential orphanage and 12 in our foster care program — providing them with food, medical care, clothing, and education. Most of the children are orphans who come from poor family backgrounds.

We are passionately concerned about the plight of orphans and believe we have a divine responsibility to provide appropriate care and protection to all vulnerable children. In Kenya alone, an estimated 3.6 million children under 18 have been orphaned or are vulnerable. Over 25% of the population lives on less than a dollar a day, and 700 children are orphaned every day — most due to HIV/AIDS, hunger, ethnic violence, or common diseases like malaria and typhoid.

Our Approach

  • Safeguard the rights of orphans and vulnerable children against any form of violation
  • Provide access to basic needs including food, shelter, healthcare, clothing, and education
  • Initiate targeted programs that build community capacity to care for children
  • Create linkages focused on eliminating all forms of vulnerability and enhancing child safety
  • Foster family matching and community mentorship networks

Active in: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Burundi

Orphan and Foster Care
Girl Child Initiative

Girl Child Initiative

Many girls in Kenya and across East Africa skip school when they get their period — an average of five days each month, sixty days a year — for the simple reason that they cannot afford sanitary pads. Many drop out because they can't keep up, and in countries where women are already at a disadvantage, this is a hidden but very real problem.

The sanitary measures girls resort to — using towels, tissues, sand, or leaves — tend to leak, resulting in shame. Some girls are even forced to exchange sex for pads, exposing them to the danger of HIV/AIDS. Our Girl Child Initiative trains girls how to make reusable sanitary pads by themselves, keeping them in school and restoring their dignity.

  • Reusable sanitary pad making workshops
  • Education scholarships and school fees
  • Annual leadership camps and mentorship
  • Sanitary pad distribution drives
  • Vocational and life-skills training

Active in: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Burundi

Anti-Jigger Outreach

This is now our third year and we have seen many changes and transformation. Jigger and worm infection is more widespread, alarming, and more serious than many realize — requiring immediate attention to contain its spread.

From our own analysis and research in one village, 50% of victims had their feet affected, 30% had both their hands and feet affected, and 20% had their scalp, hands, feet, and other parts of the body affected.

About Jiggers

The jigger (Tunga penetrans, also known as chigger, chigoe, bicho do pé, or sand flea) is a small pinhead-sized flea found in sandy terrain of warm, dry climates. It prefers deserts, beaches, stables, stack farms, and the soils and dusts in and around farms. It hides in crevices and cracks found on floors, walls of dwellings, and furniture, feeding on warm-blooded hosts including humans, cats, dogs, rats, pigs, cattle, and sheep.

Where Jiggers Attack

  • Hands
  • Feet
  • Knees
  • Private parts
  • Buttocks

Causes of Jigger Infestation

  • Poor people living in unhygienic, unsanitary dwellings
  • Low levels of hygiene and sanitation in homes and communities
  • Economic activity reduced by poor health, making people poorer and unable to rise out of poverty

Effects of Jigger Infestation

  • School dropout and poor academic performance
  • Inability to walk easily due to pain in affected areas of the legs
  • Inability to carry out normal day-to-day activities like working or playing
  • Low self-esteem resulting from stigmatization
  • Disability — people with severe infestation are unable to walk or use their hands

Our Solution

  • Provide treatment and medication with the help of local nurses and volunteers
  • Education and training on hygiene and sanitation
  • Provide shoes and clothes to the affected
  • Treatment through administration of drugs — cleaning feet, jigger removal, wound care, deworming, and disinfecting houses with poor sanitation

How You Can Be Involved

  • Come and volunteer with us
  • Donate towards provision of treatment and medication
  • Donate shoes and clothes

Anti-Jigger Outreach
Community Transformation

Community Transformation

Our Community Transformation program is changing dozens of impoverished villages by providing food aid, Good News evangelism, and practical programs that allow communities to thrive in Christ. Transforming a village has impact in every area of life.

Clean water wells are helping to restore health, church buildings are sharing the Gospel, vocational centers and schools are building futures and allowing local economies to thrive. Empowering young people to take positive charge of their lives, regardless of circumstances, has been at the heart of community transformation.

  • Clean water well projects
  • Food aid and agricultural training
  • Good News evangelism and church partnerships
  • Vocational centers and skills training
  • Savings & loans groups for women
  • Leadership development workshops

From Our Orphanage to Nursing School: A Story of Hope Fulfilled

"Seeing her in a nursing uniform, preparing to serve others in the medical field, fills our hearts with gratitude. It is a powerful reminder that when a child is given support and encouragement, their future can truly change."

Many years ago, we welcomed a young girl into our orphanage when she was just 7 years old. Through the support of our program, we walked alongside her — helping with school needs and encouraging her to keep pursuing her education through every challenge.

Today, that same girl is now in college and currently completing her nursing attachment as part of her professional training. From a child with an uncertain future to a young woman in a nursing uniform, preparing to heal and serve her community.

Stories like hers are the reason we continue this work — to give children the opportunity to dream, grow, and build a better future for themselves and their communities.

Thank you for keeping these children in your prayers.
